Lane Parke

Zoning has been approved for a redesigned Lane Parke development in Mountain Brook. The $200 million project redesigned by Goodwyn Mills & Cawood covers 14 acres with 206,000 square feet of retail to replace the out-dated Mountain Brook Shopping Center. The plans, which include an enclosed parking deck, boutique inn, 20 town homes and greenspace, comply with the Village Master Plan. Construction on the two-phase project could begin next spring with completion expected in three years.

Tuscaloosa County Health Department

A blend of traditional and contemporary architecture, the Tuscaloosa County Health Department , designed by Ellis Architects of Tuscaloosa, houses six health care clinics, administrative offices and a large meeting room. Bronze arched awnings and sun shades contrast with the light color brick, which is carried throughout the interior, where warm hues and accent tones create a welcoming feel. The interior is composed of an open atrium with two-story windows that provide natural light to all areas of the 45,000-square-foot building.

Middle Bay Lighthouse

STOA Architects of Houston will undertake a $90,000 renovation of the iron substructure supporting Middle Bay Lighthouse with assistance by Thompson Engineering of Mobile and the Alabama Lighthouse Association. Repairs to the roof, windows and other parts of the hexagonal lighthouse are planned later. When completed, the Alabama Historical Commission has pledged $30,000 a year for maintenance. The screwpile structure was in service in Mobile Bay from 1885 till 1987.

Web Awards for Red Sage Communications

Red Sage Communications Inc. garnered two Standard of Excellence awards from the Web Marketing Association’s 13th annual international WebAward Competition for the Decatur Utilities and the Decatur/Morgan County Chamber of Commerce Web sites. Winners were selected from more than 2,000 entries and 45 countries based on design, copy writing, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation and use of technology. The Decatur-based web design and marketing company has created a number of web sites for community-based organizations in north Alabama.

The Shops of Grand River

An upscale, open-air outlet center, the first phase of the Grand River development, will open in October. The $127 million, 330,000-square-foot Shops of Grand River, designed by CMH Architects of Birmingham, is the centerpiece of a 6,500-acre development, which will include residential, office and hotel components. Developer Daniel Corp. has worked with New York-based Audubon International on an environmental master plan to protect wildlife habitats and native plants and conserve natural resources on the site bisected by the Cahaba River in Leeds.
